The Journey Begins

Thanks for joining me!

Bhagwada Gita is the part of Bhishma Parva of Mahabharata. It is a spiritual discussion happened between the Bhagwan Vasudeva or Krishna and the Pandava Prince Arjuna. Bhagwad Gita is the summary of Vedas and was recited by Bhagwan Vasudeva for the people of Kaliyuga so that the Dharma will not lose its gravity in the Dark Age. Gita was comprised of 700 verses which includes the statements of Dhritarashtra, Bhagwan Vasudeva, Arjuna and Sanjaya. So, let’s discuss the summary of first chapter of Bhagwada Gita.

The only statement made by King Dhritarashtra come in the first chapter of Bhagwada Gita in which he asked Sanjaya about the assembling of armies. The first chapter dealt with the main warriors of the battle who assembled on the battlefield to fight for their master and the condition of Pandava Prince Arjuna. The first chapter give the details of arrogance of King Duryodhana when he felt that the power of the Pandavas is limited just because they don’t have master generals like the army of Kauravas that included Bhishma, Dronacharya, Kripacharya, Ashwatthtama, Shalya etc. He tried to degrade the army of Pandavas in front of Dronacharya by saying these words.

The Pandava Prince requested his charioteer Bhagwan Vasudev to station his chariot in between the both armies. Bhagwan Vasudeva stationed the chariot in between the both armies without losing any time. The Pandava Prince felt pitiful when he saw his teacher, grandfather, uncles, brothers, cousins assembling in the battlefield just for the piece of land. A lot of people misinterpret the emotions of Arjun on that occasion. They thought that Arjun becomes weak on that point of time but there is a fine line between becoming a weak and becoming a compassionate. Arjun felt compassion on that point of time because he never saw such kind of thing in his life when people from his family assembled on the battlefield just to kill each other for material opulence. He felt the limbs of his body quivering and his mouth was drying up. He started to lose his senses and speak a lot of things out of compassion in front of Bhagwan Vasudeva to avert the situation of war. He pondered on the situation that what will happen to the coming generations if my dear ones killed in the battle. Will they able to rule in an ethical way or every family traditions finished just because of cessation of the Kuru progeny. A thought that always comes into his mind was to surrender him in front the enemies because he couldn’t kill his own family members just for some material opulence.

He was not able to stand on the battlefield due to development of compassion in his heart. He saw signs of misfortune everywhere just because he never thought of killing his dear ones in his dreams. He thought that what will be the advantage of a Kingdom devoid of his family members. He will become the part of a sin if he slay his own family members. He thought that the people who assembled against him were overtaken by greed, lust, anger etc. He thought that it will be better if the sons of Dhritarashtra killed him so that he can save himself from the sins of killing his own kinsmen. In such a thought, he put his bow and arrow aside and sat himself on the chariot with his heart overwhelmed with grief.
